About Payer Objection Training
A focused training tool for market access, pricing and reimbursement teams who need to recognise, interpret and respond to payer and HTA objections with confidence.
Why this matters
In Ireland, the NCPE recommends whether a medicine should be reimbursed by the HSE. In the UK, NICE issues guidance. In Germany, IQWiG and the G-BA assess added benefit. In France, the HAS evaluates SMR and ASMR. Every system has its own language, but the objections recur:
- “The evidence is not generalisable to our population.”
- “The comparator is inappropriate.”
- “The cost-effectiveness estimate is optimistic.”
- “We already have enough options.”
- “The budget impact is unaffordable.”
These statements decide whether patients get access and whether a product reaches the market. Responding well means understanding the objection category, the evidence gap it points to, and the tone that keeps the dialogue open rather than defensive.
Who it is for
Market access managers
Preparing payer meetings, objection handlers and local value stories.
Pricing and reimbursement leads
Translating HTA critique into clear, evidence-based responses.
Medical and HEOR teams
Learning how payers frame clinical and economic uncertainty.
New joiners and trainees
Building fluency in payer language before facing a real committee.
How the training works
Each question presents one payer objection and four possible responses. You choose the answer that best addresses the concern. You then see:
- Whether your selected response was the strongest.
- Why that option works — or where it falls short.
- The correct response and its reasoning.
Feedback is immediate and grounded in the same three lenses payers use: category recognition (what kind of objection is this?), methodological soundness (does the response address the evidence gap?), and calibrated confidence (is the tone right for the audience?).
Three question sets
Foundational
Core objections on clinical relevance, comparators, cost effectiveness and budget impact. Open to guests for three free questions and fully available once you create an account.
Advanced
Deeper, more nuanced objections that require linking evidence, framing uncertainty and managing payer expectations. Unlocks once you pass the Foundational tier.
Negotiation
Commercial and negotiation scenarios: when to push back, when to pause, and how to avoid over-explaining or conceding too early. Available to signed-in users as a separate practice module.
From ValeurPricing
Payer Objection Training is built by ValeurPricing, a consultancy focused on pricing, market access and payer strategy for pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The objections and responses are drawn from real HTA technical summaries, payer minutes and negotiation patterns across European markets.
